Job Description

Insurance Defense Attorney Chicago, IL — Hybrid

Confidential application process

A respected insurance defense firm is looking to add an experienced litigator to their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned attorney who thrives in the courtroom and wants to take ownership of a substantive caseload from inception through trial, while working alongside a collaborative team known for its strong reputation in the Chicago legal market.

The attorney in this role will manage their own docket of insurance defense matters, including analyzing complex factual and legal issues, conducting research, drafting pleadings, and handling written discovery and depositions. The role also involves regular communication with clients, insurance carriers, courts, and opposing counsel, along with preparing and presenting witnesses at trials, hearings, and other dispute resolution proceedings.

What they're looking for:

  • 8+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation
  • Demonstrated, hands-on courtroom experience is required — this is not a desk-only litigation role
  • Strong background managing a full caseload independently, from case work-up through resolution
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
  • Comfortable handling depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation
  • Active Illinois bar license in good standing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage relationships with clients, carriers, courts, and opposing counsel professionally and effectively

Logistics:

  • Hybrid or remote, based in Chicago, IL
  • Full-time
  • Independent management of a litigation caseload with firm support
  • Compensation DOE

Benefits:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Retirement plan
  • PTO
