JOB DESCRIPTION

A well-established structural steel erector based in Northern Indiana is seeking an experienced Traveling Safety Manager to join their team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a respected organization with a strong reputation for quality, strong field execution, and successful delivery of commercial, industrial, and large-scale structural steel projects across the United States.

This organization offers the stability of an established contractor combined with the opportunity to oversee safety initiatives across multiple active projects nationwide. They are seeking a proactive safety leader who can independently manage field safety programs, build strong relationships with operations teams, and drive a culture centered around incident prevention and continuous improvement.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage safety programs across multiple active structural steel erection projects
  • Conduct routine jobsite inspections, audits, and safety evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client-specific safety standards
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans and preventive safety measures
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to promote a strong safety culture
  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing employee training
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and root causes while implementing corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, logs, and compliance records
  • Support project startup planning, pre-task planning, and hazard assessments
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and enforce project requirements
  • Track and analyze leading and lagging safety indicators
  • Travel regularly to active projects throughout the United States

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of construction safety experience with emphasis in structural steel erection
  • Direct experience supporting commercial and/or industrial steel construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety best practices
  • Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and training
  • Ability to influence field operations and establish credibility with craft personnel
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard construction reporting tools
  • Experience collaborating with operations, project management, and executive leadership
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • OSHA 500 Certification
  • CHST, CSP, CSHT, or equivalent professional safety credential
  • Multi-site or nationwide construction safety oversight experience
  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial, manufacturing, data center, or complex commercial projects

COMPENSATION:

  • Base Salary: $100,000–$150,000 DOE
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity
  • Travel package and company support provided
