We are seeking a skilled and motivated Road Service Technician to provide field repairs, diagnostics, maintenance, and emergency service support for trucks and heavy equipment throughout the Michigan territory.
Position Summary
The Road Service Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and service calls on municipal, vocational, and heavy-duty truck equipment at customer locations. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who enjoys variety, autonomy, and hands-on problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to road service and emergency breakdown calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel engine issues in the field.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on trucks and equipment.
- Troubleshoot vocational truck equipment and municipal equipment systems.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding repairs, service timelines, and equipment concerns.
- Complete accurate service documentation, work orders, and repair reports.
- Coordinate with the Parts and Service Departments to ensure efficient repair completion.
- Maintain company service vehicle, tools, and equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
- Follow all company safety procedures and DOT requirements.
- Provide high-level customer service while representing the company in the field.
- Assist shop technicians when needed based on workload and scheduling demands.
Qualifications
- Experience as a diesel technician, heavy equipment technician, or road service technician.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, PTO systems, and vocational equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues independently in the field.
- Experience with municipal equipment, refuse equipment, construction equipment, or heavy-duty trucks preferred.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic work orders.
- CDL preferred or ability to obtain one.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Must possess own tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
