Project Manager – Underground Construction
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee underground utility construction projects with a focus on trenchless installation methods. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years of direct experience managing HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling), boring, and trenchless construction projects for dry utility scopes. Additional experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage underground utility construction projects from startup through completion
- Oversee scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, and daily project operations
- Coordinate field crews, equipment, vendors, and utility stakeholders to ensure successful project execution
- Monitor project progress, costs, productivity, and safety performance
- Review project plans, specifications, and utility requirements
- Manage change orders, RFIs, and project documentation
- Attend project meetings, site visits, and customer coordination meetings as needed
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget
- Maintain strong communication with clients, municipalities, inspectors, and internal teams
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience managing underground utility construction projects
- Direct experience with trenchless construction, HDD, and boring operations required
- Experience with dry utility scopes such as telecom, fiber, electric, or gas preferred
- Strong understanding of underground construction methods, utility coordination, and field operations
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
