Tax Manager

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Overview

A large national CPA and advisory firm is seeking a Tax Manager for its domestic tax group in Grand Rapids. You will oversee the compliance process for federal and state partnership, C corporation and S corporation returns and related individual and trust returns, identify and solve ancillary tax issues, handle annual tax planning and research, and provide guidance and leadership to staff while interacting with clients regularly.

Responsibilities

• Manage preparation of complex returns for C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts and estates across a variety of industries
• Perform extensive research on complex tax issues and apply sound analytical and decision-making skills
• Maintain timely, accurate communication with the team and clients on expectations, deadlines and deliverables
• Review staff work on individual and corporate federal and state income tax returns
• Train new employees on firm technology, processes and procedures, and mentor staff in developing technical skills
• Build strong client relationships and participate in practice development to grow a network of referral sources
• Present new ideas and improvements to help achieve firm and departmental goals

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation
• 5+ years of recent public accounting (or related governmental) experience
• CPA license or Enrolled Agent status
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of business and individual tax returns
• Excellent analytical, research, communication and writing skills
• Ability to manage multiple engagements, meet deadlines and mentor others
• CCH Axcess experience helpful but not required
• Located within commuting distance of Grand Rapids
