Senior Claims Adjuster Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Claims Adjuster to manage complex, high-exposure liability and automobile claims from inception through resolution. This role is responsible for conducting investigations, evaluating coverage and liability, managing litigation, negotiating settlements, and maintaining strong relationships with members, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, an effective negotiator, and experienced in handling complex commercial liability claims in a professional and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities for Sr. Claims Adjuster
- Investigate and manage complex liability and automobile claims from initial report through closure
- Evaluate coverage, liability exposure, damages, and settlement value
- Conduct detailed claim investigations and document findings accurately
- Establish and manage claim reserves in accordance with company procedures
- Coordinate and oversee litigation activities with defense counsel
- Review legal strategies, budgets, pleadings, deposition summaries, and case evaluations
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as needed
- Negotiate settlements within delegated authority
- Maintain timely and accurate electronic claim documentation
- Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, vendors, and internal departments
- Provide reports and recommendations regarding claim and litigation activity
- Ensure compliance with claims handling procedures and litigation management protocols
- Collaborate with leadership on process improvements and claims strategies
Qualifications Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Professional designations such as ARM, CPCU, or AIC are a plus
- Adjuster’s license preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience handling complex commercial liability and automobile claims
- Experience managing litigated claims preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of commercial liability and automobile coverage
- Proven investigative, analytical, and negotiation skills
- Experience working with litigation counsel and managing legal budgets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic claims management systems
- Ability to work independently, remotely, and collaboratively within a team environment
Travel Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to travel, including occasional overnight trips
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment with occasional travel to meetings, conferences, and client locations. The role may involve prolonged periods of sitting, computer work, and active participation in meetings and presentations.
