Drafting Manager
Location: Northwest KY (preferred) | Remote considered

Our firm is conducting a confidential search for a Drafting Manager to provide company-wide management across all drafting operations. This managerial-level role will shape drafting strategy, drive standardization and scalability, and ensure timely, accurate, and economical design deliverables that support fabrication, field erection, and competitive bid efforts. Our client tracks with excellence in communication towers, water tanks (both elevated and ground storage) and support systems.

Drafting Manager Overview

The Drafting Manager will lead, train, and develop all drafting teams across the organization, aligning technical execution with operational priorities and project delivery schedules. This role partners closely with Operations, Project Management, Sales, and Executive Leadership to enhance productivity, improve constructability, and support profitable growth.

Drafting Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all drafting personnel company-wide.
  • Align drafting/design deliverables with project schedules, production needs, and bid deadlines.
  • Develop and manage weekly drafting workload forecasts and staffing plans.
  • Coordinate outsourcing of drafting services as needed.
  • Review labor performance, overtime, and job cost data; provide actionable feedback.
  • Maintain and improve drawing standards, redline tracking, and document control systems.
  • Ensure effective utilization of AutoCAD and related engineering software platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency, constructability, and fabrication support.
  • Integrate drafting outputs with shop equipment and machine-readable systems where applicable.
  • Mentor and develop engineering and drafting talent across divisions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to improve productivity and consistency. 

Drafting Manager Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in drafting, design, and/or construction management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience across multi-site or multi-division operations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD (or comparable design software).
