We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Outside Sales Representative to join our growing wholesale building materials team. This position is ideal for a sales professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys building long-term customer relationships, and is comfortable spending significant time on the road visiting contractors, job sites, and customers across multiple territories.

This is a performance-based sales role with high earning potential for individuals who are motivated to grow their business and maximize commissions.


Position Overview

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business opportunities, maintaining existing customer relationships, and driving sales growth within the contractor and construction market. The role requires extensive travel, overnight stays, and consistent face-to-face interaction with customers.

Success in this role comes from strong relationship-building skills, product knowledge, responsiveness, and the ability to provide solutions that meet customer project needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and grow new contractor and commercial accounts within assigned territories
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers
  • Promote and sell wholesale building material products and services
  • Assist customers with selecting products that best fit project specifications and budgets
  • Prepare pricing proposals, quotes, and sales agreements
  • Coordinate delivery schedules, service commitments, and order follow-up
  • Review blueprints and project plans to estimate material needs
  • Resolve customer concerns and ensure a high level of service satisfaction
  • Support collection efforts and maintain healthy account balances
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and competitive offerings
  • Attend training sessions, meetings, and company events as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business operations

Travel Expectations

This is a territory position requiring frequent overnight stays in hotels and regular travel throughout the assigned territory. Candidates should be comfortable spending 1-2 nights per week away from home while managing customer visits, job site meetings, and sales calls.


Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess the following:

  • Proven sales experience, preferably in building materials, construction, wholesale distribution, or related industries
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and construction documents
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn and navigate company software systems
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving abilities
  • Flexible schedule availability, including occasional weekends
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening and drug/alcohol testing
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in both office and outdoor job site environments
  • Frequent driving and travel are required
  • Regular use of hands, arms, hearing, and verbal communication
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the workday
  • Occasional lifting and moving of materials or products up to 100 pounds
