Litigation Associate – Raleigh, NC

A well-established business-focused law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Associate to join its Raleigh, North Carolina office. This is an opportunity for an attorney who enjoys representing businesses and creditors and wants to develop a broad litigation practice involving sophisticated commercial matters.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of matters involving commercial litigation, construction-related matters, equipment finance and leasing, bankruptcy, creditor remedies, and other business-related disputes. The position provides an opportunity to handle matters in state and federal courts while working closely with clients, opposing counsel, and other members of the legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent business clients in a broad range of contested matters.
  • Handle litigation matters through various stages of the dispute-resolution process.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze complex factual and legal issues.
  • Appear in state and federal courts and participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, negotiations, and other proceedings.
  • Handle matters involving commercial disputes, construction, creditor remedies, bankruptcy, equipment financing, and related areas.
  • Develop practical litigation strategies based on client objectives and business considerations.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel and work toward favorable resolutions when appropriate.
  • Maintain direct and professional relationships with clients.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals to efficiently manage matters.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm's litigation practice.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Active North Carolina Bar license in good standing and willingness to obtain South Carolina licensure.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated courtroom advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Ability to take ownership of assignments and manage matters with appropriate independence.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with attorneys and support staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to deadlines.
  • A self-directed approach to professional development and career growth.
  • An interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business-development efforts.

Preferred Background

The ideal candidate will have two or more years of litigation experience, including exposure to state court, federal court, bankruptcy proceedings, or a combination of these settings. Attorneys licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina or who are willing to pursue South Carolina admission. The firm places a high value on collegiality and collaboration and is particularly interested in attorneys who enjoy working alongside colleagues in an office setting.

Raleigh Office & Travel

This position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and requires regular attendance in the firm's office. Occasional travel will be necessary for court appearances, client meetings, depositions, and other professional obligations throughout the state. Travel is expected to represent approximately 10%–25% of the attorney's time.
