Job Overview: Our company custom builds high-performance biomedical textile structures, applying decades of experience in textile engineering and advanced fabric design methods to braid, knit and woven products that meet the demands of a diverse set of customers in the biomedical product space. We are seeking a recognized professional master in textiles to manage design, development and implementation of biomedical textile products and processes, manufacturing methods, techniques, practices, and procedures with a focus on flat fabric processing to ensure the manufacture of products which meet and exceed customer expectations. This position reports to the Engineering Director and offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge biomedical textile technology in a collaborative environment. Never comfortable with the status quo, complex biomedical textile challenges are tackled with agility, credibility and curiosity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Function as the company's professional master on knitting and weaving machines and processes
- Process Development: Manage the development and implementation of textile forming and finishing processes to support new product development in compliance with company QMS standards and customers' requirements
- Clean Room Manufacturing: Manage the implementation and optimization of processes for manufacturing in a clean room environment
- Quality Documentation: Create PFMEAs, EIOQs, Procedures, Work Instructions, Process Flows, Routers, and other QMS documentation in compliance with company QMS standards
- Innovation Management: Manage the development of new technological solutions to manufacturing challenges including the use of digital tools for product documentation and traceability
- Validation Leadership: Write and execute engineering and validation protocols to support process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) and the creation of statistically derived product specifications
- Production Transfer: Manage the transfer of new product development processes to commercial production, including scaleup for capacity volume
- Testing Standards: Manage the creation, audit and review of test standards and methods for the analysis of design concepts and component assemblies
- Capital Equipment: Make and evaluate proposals for identification, tracking, logistics and installation of capital equipment including potential travel for site acceptance testing
- Business Development: Own the creation of business case for volume expansion
- Tooling Design: Manage the design and manufacture of clean room compatible fixtures and tooling intended to aid manufacturing processes and interface with existing equipment
- Continuous Learning: Expand the company's expertise in state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing methods and materials utilization through research and analysis of technical trends
- Problem Solving: Lead problem solving, CAPA, and continuous improvement activities, and lead decision-making process
- Presentations: Present ideas and proposals to company Leadership
- Mentorship: Coach, review, and delegate work of/to lower-level engineers
- Travel: <10% domestic and international travel in support of customers, engineering projects, site acceptance tests and training
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Textile or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required
- 9+ years of experience in a textile engineering function within a manufacturing environment
- Expertise in knitting, wovens, and warping processes ( 2 of the three disciplines may be acceptable)
- Strong understanding of weaving processes and experience with various loom types
- Experience with warp knitting machines and warping equipment
- Highly desired but not required: Experience with Shuttle Jacquard looms, Dobby Rapier looms, Karl Mayer warp knitting machines (Tricot and Double Needle Bar), and Karl Mayer warping machines
- Expertise in the physical and mechanical characteristics of fabrics, fibers, yarns, and polymers
- Superb verbal communication skills and comfortable interacting with team members and customers at all levels
- Effective technical writing skills consistent with writing engineering reports and quality management system documentation
- Strong track record of root cause analysis, creative problem solving, and effective engineering decision making
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Platforms (ERP) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team leader
- Self-starter able to work without supervision
- Capable of generating and delivering presentations to management, peers and labor force
- Demonstrated proficiency of design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively, develop relationships, adapt, be customer focused, and innovate
- Physical ability to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds and tools up to 50 pounds
- This role is not eligible for sponsorship now or in the future
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $133,000 - $159,000
- Location: New York (Relocation Pkg offered if not commutable)
- In-office Monday - Thursday, Friday optional work-from-home
