Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician
Position Summary:
Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment used in daily landfill operations. Equipment may include bulldozers, compactors, excavators, loaders, graders, articulated trucks, and other diesel-powered
machinery.
Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on heavy equipment.
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, brakes, and cooling systems.
Inspect equipment before and after use to identify mechanical problems and safety concerns.
Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and perform repairs in the shop or in the field.
Replace and repair hoses, belts, filters, fluids, bearings, tires, tracks, and other components.
Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machining when necessary.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Respond to equipment breakdowns throughout the landfill and minimize equipment downtime.
Work safely around landfill traffic, waste, dust, uneven terrain, and other environmental hazards.
Follow OSHA, company, and environmental safety requirements.
Communicate equipment condition and repair needs to supervisors and landfill operations personnel.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience repairing heavy construction, mining, agricultural, or landfill equipment.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
Ability to read and understand service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and standard mechanic tools.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift heavy parts and perform physically demanding work.

Work Environment: Full-time, hands-on maintenance position in an active landfill environment. The technician should be comfortable working around heavy machinery, noise, dust, mud, extreme temperatures, and potentially hazardous materials while following strict safety procedures.
