WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY DO
Daily Core Responsibilities
- Conducting site inspections: Walking active infrastructure jobsites to monitor grading, utility installation, and concrete pouring.
- Enforcing safety protocols: Verifying that field crews adhere strictly to OSHA standards and company-specific safety policies.
- Managing project budgets: Tracking daily expenditures, reviewing subcontractor invoices, and approving field change orders.
- Reviewing engineering blueprints: Analyzing structural, grading, and utility plans to resolve design conflicts before field execution.
- Updating master schedules: Utilizing scheduling software to track milestones and adjust logic paths for weather delays.
- Procuring bulk materials: Coordinating daily delivery logs for ready-mix concrete, aggregate base, and stormwater piping.
Local Operations
- Navigating Metro agencies: Submitting compliance documentation and coordinating inspections with the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Metro Water Services (MWS).
- Managing stormwater compliance: Overseeing daily inspections of silt fences, sediment basins, and construction entrances to comply with strict Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) regulations.
- Coordinating urban logistics: Planning concrete pours and heavy equipment transport around tight downtown Nashville right-of-way restrictions and lane closure windows.
- Mitigating geologic risks: Adjusting excavation schedules and blasting plans when field crews encounter the shallow limestone bedrock characteristic of Middle Tennessee.
Communication & Stakeholder Alignment
- Leading subcontractor alignments: Hosting daily morning huddles with grading, utility, and paving foremen to define production goals.
- Presenting client updates: Providing progress reports, look-ahead schedules, and budget variances to private developers or public entities.
- Interfacing with inspectors: Walking the site with Metro Nashville codes officials to secure signoffs on critical project phases.
