About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabricator serving commercial and industrial projects throughout the region. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team and play a key role in bidding and securing new work.
This position offers the flexibility to work primarily from home with occasional travel to the office for meetings and collaboration. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office location listed in the posting.
Position Overview
The Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and miscellaneous metals projects, including stairs, railings, ladders, platforms, and other custom fabricated components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fabrication processes, construction documents, and estimating best practices.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication projects.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop material, labor, and equipment costs.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Coordinate with project managers, detailers, fabrication teams, and clients during the bidding process.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and assist with project handoffs after award.
- Support multiple bids while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of estimating experience within structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication.
- Experience estimating stairs, railings, platforms, ladders, and other custom fabricated metals.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings and project specifications.
- Tekla experience is highly preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and work independently in a remote environment.
- Must reside within a commutable distance of the office and be willing to travel onsite as needed.
