Job Description: Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to join our estimating team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3+ years of experience preparing accurate and competitive estimates for roadway, utility, earthwork, and bridge construction projects. Familiarity with DOT (Department of Transportation) projects is a strong plus.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can analyze plans, specifications, and other project documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate bids
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to gather pricing
  • Perform quantity take-offs and prepare scopes of work
  • Assist with value engineering and risk assessment
  • Support the handoff to the project management team after successful bids
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, pricing, and local market conditions

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
  • Experience with roadway, utility, earthwork, and bridge projects
  • Familiarity with DOT project requirements and specifications (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam)
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred
