Job Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of fleet maintenance, including scheduling, repairs, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. This role involves leading a team of mechanics and technicians, managing budgets, and working closely with operations to ensure that vehicles are in optimal condition. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fleet management, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Management: Oversee the maintenance and repair of all waste collection vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and meet operational needs.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and extend the life of the fleet.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and manage a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of work.
  • Budget Management: Manage the fleet maintenance budget, including labor, parts, and external services, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining quality standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure all fleet operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT and OSHA requirements, and maintain accurate records for audits.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring that necessary materials are available for timely repairs and maintenance.
  • Vendor Management: Work with external vendors and service providers to negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and ensure high-quality service.
  • Safety Management: Promote and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety meetings, and ensure all team members are trained in safe work practices.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance activities, costs, and compliance to the Operations Manager.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance fleet performance, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fleet maintenance or management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably within the waste management or transportation industry.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair procedures, and fleet management practices.
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Proficiency in fleet management software and tools.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Licenses/Certifications: ASE certification or equivalent is preferred; a valid driver's license is required.
