Senior Accountant – Banking Industry (CPA Preferred)

Location: Houston Texas Employment Type: Full-Time | Onsite 

Overview

Our client, a well-established community bank, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance and accounting team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and understands the unique financial and regulatory nuances of the banking industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Assist with call report preparation and other regulatory filings.

  • Support internal and external audits, including gathering documentation and preparing audit schedules.

  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure proper accounting treatment.

  • Monitor loan loss reserves, investment portfolio accounting, and fixed asset schedules.

  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  • Identify process improvements and assist with implementation of accounting automation or software enhancements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • CPA or CPA candidacy strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a banking or financial institution environment.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, bank regulatory reporting, and internal controls.

  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with banking core systems or general ledger software.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
