Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Utility Foreman to lead and supervise field crews on underground utility and civil infrastructure projects throughout Western South Dakota. This role is responsible for coordinating daily work activities, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and maintaining productivity to keep projects on schedule. Some regional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead utility crews performing underground work including water, sewer, storm drain, and related infrastructure.

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute daily work activities in accordance with project plans and schedules.

  • Read and interpret civil drawings, utility plans, and specifications.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, inspectors, and subcontractors.

  • Manage labor, equipment, and materials efficiently.

  • Maintain quality control and ensure work meets specifications and standards.

  • Complete daily reports, track production, and communicate job progress.

  • Mentor and train crew members to promote skill development and teamwork.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in underground utility or heavy civil construction, with prior foreman or lead experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of underground utility installation (water, sewer, storm, trenching, backfill, and compaction).

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, utility plans, and grade stakes.

  • Proven ability to lead crews and manage jobsite productivity.

  • Solid understanding of jobsite safety practices and regulations.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel as required.


Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Experience working on municipal or DOT utility projects.

  • Familiarity with GPS, laser levels, and grade control.

  • Hands-on knowledge of excavation and heavy equipment operations.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • CDL (Class A or B) is a plus but not required.
