Senior Project Manager – Healthcare Construction

Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading large-scale healthcare construction projects throughout California, overseeing all aspects of project planning, execution, financial performance, and client management. This role serves as the primary leader for complex healthcare projects including hospitals, medical office buildings, surgery centers, laboratories, and healthcare campuses. The Senior Project Manager ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all healthcare regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead healthcare construction projects ranging from $20M to $500M+.
- Oversee multiple projects and project teams simultaneously.
- Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing strategies.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers.
- Collaborate with field leadership to ensure successful project delivery.
Financial Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and profitability.
- Oversee contract negotiations, procurement, and subcontractor buyout.
- Review and approve change orders, pay applications, and cost reports.
- Identify and mitigate project risks affecting financial performance.
- Ensure projects meet or exceed margin objectives.
Client & Business Development
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, healthcare systems, architects, and consultants.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Participate in project pursuits, interviews, and proposal presentations.
- Support business development initiatives and repeat-client opportunities.
Healthcare Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with California healthcare construction requirements.
- Coordinate and manage:
- HCAI (formerly OSHPD) compliance
- Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA)
- Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
- Joint Commission standards
- Regulatory inspections and approvals
- Oversee construction activities within occupied healthcare facilities while minimizing disruption to patient care.
Team & Operations Management
- Direct project teams through all phases of construction.
- Review project schedules and recovery plans.
- Monitor quality control and safety performance.
- Facilitate project meetings with stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Ensure timely project closeout and owner turnover.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of commercial construction experience.
- 5+ years managing healthcare construction projects.
- Experience leading projects valued at $20M–$500M+.
- Proven success managing hospitals, acute care facilities, medical office buildings, laboratories, or healthcare campuses.
- Experience with design-build, CMAR, and negotiated delivery methods.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- HCAI/OSHPD requirements
