Waste Facilities Engineer

About the Role: We are seeking a dynamic Waste Facilities Engineer to play a key role in the planning, development, and construction of solid waste facilities, including transfer stations, recycling centers, and material recovery facilities. This position involves a mix of technical expertise, project management, business development, and collaboration with clients and team members.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and support projects from concept to completion, including feasibility studies, design, permitting, construction oversight, and certification.

  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance in all project phases.

  • Perform engineering calculations, develop reports, and oversee the preparation of design drawings and technical documents.

  • Prepare construction cost estimates and technical design reports.

  • Certify designs and oversee construction activities to ensure adherence to engineering plans and safety standards.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and invoicing while maintaining quality control and client satisfaction.

  • Support business development by maintaining client relationships and pursuing new opportunities.

  • Collaborate with and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.

  • Travel periodically (2-3 hotel nights per month) for site visits and industry conferences.

What You Bring:

  • Education & Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related environmental field; Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • Experience: 3-5+ years in solid waste management, facility development, or a related field.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in engineering software, CAD (3D preferred), and MS Office (Word, Excel).

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, track budgets, and meet deadlines.

  • Collaboration & Leadership: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Bonus: Regulatory experience and established client relationships.
