GPAC is partnering with a mission-driven private high school in the mid-Hudson Valley that seeking a passionate and resourceful Guidance Counselor committed to academic excellence and holistic student development.
**Candidates with prior experience in private school settings are highly preferred.**
Position Summary
This school is seeking candidates who take the time to get to know students and their goals, helping them access the resources and supports they need academically and spiritually--in high school, college and beyond.
Job Responsibilities
- Co-leads the Advisory and Character Education Program at the secondary level, making effective use of class time, resources, and teacher partnerships
- Counsels both individual and student groups on a variety of topics including academic course work and course selection, time management, stress reduction, study skills, and making healthy decisions
- Supports student faith formation as an enduring source of strength post-graduation
- Guides student exploration of and application to post-secondary learning and career options
- Monitors student achievement and facilitates intervention on the students' behalf when a pattern of need emerges
- Identifies students at-risk for academic failure and works with those students to implement a plan for improvement
- Serves as the standardized testing coordinator for PSAT, SAT, and ACT administered on a school day
- Meets with parents to foster a collaborative approach to student achievement
- Supports students and the School with crisis intervention
- Assists with and participates in the development and implementation of support and prevention programs
Job Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Counseling (or similar program) is preferred
- Licensure or certification in school counseling, school psychology, social work or closely related field required
- Minimum 3 years experience as a school counselor, preferably in an private/independent school environment
