Associate Attorney – Municipal Prosecutor

Location: Joliet, Illinois

Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 annually

Position Overview

We are seeking an Associate Attorney with 1‑4 years of experience to serve as a Municipal Prosecutor in our Joliet office. Ideal candidates will have litigation and courtroom experience, strong judgment, excellent writing and speaking skills, and a desire to engage in public service work.

Key Responsibilities

• Prosecute municipal cases including traffic, ordinance violations, misdemeanor criminal cases, and other local government matters
• Prepare cases for court: draft complaints, motions, discovery, plea agreements, and legal memoranda
• Appear in court hearings, trials, and other proceedings before local municipal or city courts
• Work with law enforcement, municipal code enforcement, and other city agencies on case development and strategy
• Review cases, research legal issues, ensure compliance with statutory and procedural requirements
• Communicate with defendants, attorneys, and city officials as needed
• Maintain case files and dockets, meet filing deadlines, and manage courtroom schedule

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Admitted to practice in Illinois
• 1‑4 years of legal experience, including litigation preferably involving criminal, traffic, or municipal law
• Strong courtroom experience or exposure (hearings, trials or comparable adjudicative proceedings)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Sharp legal research skills; attention to procedural detail
• Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and work well in a fast‑paced courtroom setting
