Steel Construction Project Manager Job

 

An established structural steel fabrication operation is seeking an experienced Steel Construction Project Manager to lead multiple projects from award through final delivery.

This position serves as the central point of coordination between detailing, production, estimating, logistics, and the customer. The successful candidate will keep schedules accurate,

materials moving, scope changes controlled, and the shop supplied with what it needs to execute projects successfully.

What You'll Do

  • Manage multiple structural steel projects from award through final delivery.
  • Coordinate shop and erection drawings with project detailers.
  • Serve as the liaison between detailers, customer engineers, and internal teams.
  • Track material buyouts, deliveries, and long-lead items.
  • Maintain and update project schedules weekly.
  • Communicate milestones and sequencing needs to production.
  • Track scope changes and coordinate change-order information with estimating.
  • Help establish shop priorities and fabrication resource needs.
  • Coordinate shipping logistics around customer schedules and site requirements.
  • Communicate weld testing, inspection, paint/coating, and special handling requirements.
  • Verify IFC drawings and contract documents against bid sets.
  • Track estimate-versus-actual costs, invoices, back charges, and related documentation.
  • Maintain customer relationships and manage changing project requirements.
  • Travel as needed to support project execution.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience with structural steel fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication workflows.
  • Experience with project scheduling and material planning.
  • Experience managing material buyouts, deliveries, and long-lead items.
  • Experience with scope changes, change orders, and cost tracking.
  • Familiarity with shop production sequencing and fabrication resource planning.
  • Ability to read shop drawings, IFC documents, and contracts.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Strong safety awareness in a fabrication or construction environment.

BA/BS preferred. Equivalent real-world structural steel fabrication project management experience will be considered.
