Job Title: Soil Scientist – Septic & Drain Field Specialist
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Soil Scientist specializing in septic system design and drain field evaluations. This role is essential in conducting soil testing, site assessments, and regulatory compliance evaluations to ensure proper wastewater treatment solutions for residential, commercial, and municipal projects. The ideal candidate will have expertise in soil classification, percolation testing, and environmental impact assessments related to onsite wastewater systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct soil evaluations and percolation tests to assess site suitability for septic and drain field installations.
- Classify soils according to state and federal guidelines, including texture, permeability, and drainage capacity.
- Prepare technical reports, soil maps, and site plans for permit applications and regulatory compliance.
- Design and recommend onsite wastewater treatment systems based on soil characteristics and site constraints.
- Work closely with engineers, surveyors, health departments, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local and state septic regulations.
- Provide soil remediation recommendations and solutions for problematic sites.
- Utilize GIS, GPS, and soil analysis software to record and interpret data.
- Assist clients with permits, compliance documentation, and feasibility studies for new developments or system upgrades.
- Conduct field investigations and inspections for new and existing drain fields.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certification as a Professional Soil Scientist (PSS) or Authorized Onsite Soil Evaluator (AOSE) (preferred).
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in soil evaluations for septic and drain field applications.
- Strong knowledge of septic system design, drain field hydraulics, and soil morphology.
- Familiarity with local and state wastewater regulations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and soil analysis software (preferred).
- Ability to work independently in field-based environments and travel to project sites as needed.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
