Risk Officer Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage credit risk for the bank's loan portfolio and promptly advise senior management of any changes in the trends (rating migration, delinquency, collateral, concentration, disruptors, KRIs, originations)
- Responsible for the development, execution, and management of reporting and analytical needs for Portfolio Credit Risk Management.
- Prepare and assist in various analyses including the quarterly Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (“ALLL”) analysis, Portfolio stress testing, Concentration management analysis.
- Apply sensitivity analysis, stress testing, market trend, and other analytical methodologies to anticipate credit trends or deterioration and obtain insights into portfolio performance.
- Review credit risk and reward strategy changes of selected portfolios and provide management recommendations to optimize risk-return characteristics, including risk-based pricing.
- Review and challenge business units’ credit risk and portfolio strategies and provide feedback on new (or significant enhancement to) products or services that have credit risk.
- Identify potential systemic problems in the life cycle of credit from origination, underwriting, documentation, and problem loans, including identifying changing market conditions.
- Review risk assessments and annual loan reviews- evaluating the financial position of borrowers considering prudent lending practices through financial/cash flow analysis and applying credit/regulation.
- Evaluate the activities of lending personnel, ensuring such activities are compliant with lending policies and the quality of their loan approval, monitoring, and risk grading assessment.
- Evaluate the credit risk of the loan portfolio by reviewing all lending departments and products through new production sampling, seasoned loans, and marginal and criticized loan reviews within the portfolios.
- Recommend appropriate loan risk grade or adversely classify loans, especially those with well-defined credit weaknesses that jeopardize the repayment.
- Manage risk presentations for senior management that include portfolio activities, analytics of risk, performance, emerging trends, and opportunities.
- Lead the development of analytics and advanced visualization to assist with portfolio credit risk surveillance. Typical functions are loss forecasting, loan mix management, risk appetite management, collections strategy, watch list oversight and reporting related to KPI/KRI’s that affect portfolio surveillance.
- Develop creative automation solutions within all aspects of the risk and analytics function. Explore the use of new data sources within the organization’s decision-making function.
- Track policy exceptions that will provide meaningful feedback to understand credit portfolio risk, and future potential credit problems, and provide feedback for Lending Policy and Underwriting enhancements.
- Develop and coaches a team of credit analysts to ensure all activities and projects are effective and efficient, provide a risk-based focus and support the bank’s overall strategic objectives - Provide ongoing training, support
- Assists Lending Managers and the CCO with the creation, submission, and maintenance of periodic lending activity and portfolio condition reports; respond to requests from external/internal auditors, external loan review vendors, and regulatory agencies regarding the loan portfolio.
- Develop internal loan review procedures to evaluate credit administration and residual credit risk, as well as manage the scope of the loan review program.
- Serve as the point person for external loan review, audit, and regulatory exams.
Risk Officer Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting or Finance; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in credit risk portfolio management, credit administration, loan review, regulatory/examination, and/or credit analysis.
- Strong data analysis experience within the financial services industry
- Superb analytical and critical thinking skills - Intellectual curiously
- In-depth knowledge of portfolio management practices; credit administration; loan underwriting standard
