A well-established commercial and industrial construction company is seeking a Construction Estimator to join its preconstruction team in Manhattan, Kansas. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects while developing long-term career growth within a reputable general contractor.
Position Overview:
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects ranging from $1M to $50M+. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project management, operations, and executive teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for all construction disciplines.
Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals.
Identify scope gaps, value engineering opportunities, and constructability issues.
Prepare conceptual budgets and detailed estimates during all phases of design.
Collaborate closely with project managers during project handoff and buyout phases.
Maintain cost history data and assist with continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Attend pre-bid meetings and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience estimating with a General Contractor (commercial or industrial focus required).
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience accepted).
Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, and materials.
Proficiency with estimating software (such as On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar).
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
