Senior Counsel – Civil Litigation Defense – Remote - California

A forward-thinking defense firm that embraces innovation, invests in its people, and offers real pathways to partnership is seeking a Senior Counsel with a minimum of 7 years of litigation experience to join its growing civil litigation defense practice. The firm handles a broad range of matters, including labor & employment, public entity defense, and complex commercial litigation.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can independently manage a diverse caseload, lead case teams, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated litigator who values collaboration, professional growth, and the ability to shape firm culture and strategy. Candidates must reside in California to be considered. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of civil litigation, from case strategy and discovery through trial or settlement.
  • Draft and argue dispositive motions and other substantive pleadings.
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and expert witnesses.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals on case management and best practices.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies aligned with client goals and budgets.
  • Manage expert witnesses, including selection, preparation, and testimony coordination.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing timely updates, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations.
  • Participate in business development initiatives and contribute to firm growth.
  • Utilize cloud-based litigation tools and technology to enhance efficiency and client service.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to the California State Bar (required).
  • Minimum of 7 years of civil, commercial, or defense litigation experience.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal litigation procedures.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior attorneys preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong client relationships and deliver results under pressure.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
