Estimator – Heavy Civil (Roads & Bridges)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to support roadway and bridge construction projects. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, takeoffs, and bid proposals for DOT and municipal transportation projects.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of heavy civil construction, DOT specifications, and competitive bid environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for roadway and bridge projects

  • Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, paving, structures, drainage, and utilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents

  • Develop bid pricing, scopes of work, and proposal packages

  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents during preconstruction

  • Participate in bid reviews and post-bid handoffs

  • Track historical cost data and maintain estimating databases

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an Estimator in heavy civil construction

  • Proven experience estimating roads, bridges, or DOT infrastructure projects

  • Strong understanding of DOT and municipal specifications

  • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, HCSS, Bid2Win, Excel)

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
