Civil Estimator – Heavy Civil / Infrastructure
Location: South Dakota

 Heavy civil contractor in South Dakota is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to support preconstruction and bidding efforts for infrastructure projects. This role prepares detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions, working closely with project teams, engineers, vendors, and owners throughout the pre-bid process.

 


Key Scopes of Work

  • Earthwork

  • Roadway construction

  • Utilities (waterline, storm, sanitary sewer)

  • Concrete flatwork

  • Concrete structures

  • Deep foundations


Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and proposals to fully understand project requirements

  • Perform accurate takeoffs for labor, material, and equipment

  • Develop detailed cost breakdowns and bid items

  • Analyze labor, production rates, subcontractor quotes, and market pricing

  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive and timely quotes

  • Identify project risks and support internal bid reviews

  • Prepare complete bid packages and support preconstruction planning

  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and internal operations teams


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Mathematics, or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in construction or related estimating role

  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction principles and project sequencing

  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid and Bluebeam Revu preferred

  • Proficiency and Microsoft Office

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and proposals

  • Valid driver’s license
