Job Description: Structural Steel Shop Superintendent
Company Overview
We are a leading construction firm specializing in structural steel fabrication for commercial and industrial projects. We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Shop Superintendent to oversee our fabrication shop operations.
Position Summary
The Structural Steel Shop Superintendent will manage daily operations of the fabrication shop, ensuring efficient production, quality control, and safety compliance for structural steel components. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role supervises shop personnel and coordinates with project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee fabrication shop activities, including cutting, welding, and assembly of structural steel components.
- Manage shop personnel, assigning tasks and ensuring productivity and quality standards.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to meet project specifications and deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with AISC standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
- Monitor equipment maintenance and material inventory to support production schedules.
- Conduct inspections to verify the quality of fabricated steel components.
- Train and mentor shop staff to improve skills and maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of production, safety, and personnel activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, and assembly.
- Familiarity with AISC standards and OSHA safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and specifications.
- Experience with fabrication shop equipment and tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in welding/fabrication is a plus.
