Job Title: General Manager - Solid Waste Recycling (Relocation may be required)

Type: Full-Time Reports to: Executive Leadership

Key Responsibilities for General Manager:

  • Develop and execute long-term plans for solid waste management operations with a focus on recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and revenue growth.
  • Analyze industry trends to stay ahead of regulatory changes and technological advancements.

Operational Management for General Manager

  • Oversee daily operations across all solid waste facilities, including waste collection routes, transfer stations, landfills, and recycling centers.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and equipment to maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure operational success.

Budgeting and Financial Control for General Manager

  • Manage the budget for solid waste and recycling operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility in equipment maintenance, labor costs, and disposal fees.
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts for leadership review.
  • Develop strategies to improve cost efficiency and profitability.

Compliance Management for General Manager

  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations governing waste disposal and recycling practices.
  • Maintain proper documentation and reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Proactively address potential compliance risks through internal audits and staff training.

Staff Supervision for General Manager

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of supervisors, operators, and administrative staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training to staff.

Customer Service 

  • Address and resolve customer concerns regarding waste collection and recycling services promptly.
  • Develop and implement improvements to enhance service quality and reliability.

  • Collaborate with local communities on recycling and waste reduction education programs.
  • Represent the company at public meetings, forums, and industry events to promote sustainable waste management practices.
  • Develop partnerships to support community outreach and environmental stewardship efforts.

Qualifications for General Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in solid waste, recycling, or related industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of waste management regulations and environmental compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, analyze financial data, and drive cost-effective solutions.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and waste management software platforms.
