Associate Attorney – (Real Estate/Affordable Housing) - San Francisco/Remote 

A premier boutique law firm with a nationally recognized affordable housing and real estate practice is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its collaborative San Francisco office. The firm represents nonprofit developers and community-based organizations in sophisticated real estate transactions, financing, and tax credit matters. This is a unique opportunity for an attorney with strong transactional skills to take the lead on complex deals, work directly with clients, and develop expertise in affordable housing finance and development. Remote work options are available; however, candidates must hold an active California Bar license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead purchase and sale negotiations, documentation, title review, due diligence, and property transfers.
  • Represent clients in complex ground lease transactions, financing agreements, and development deals.
  • Handle conversions from construction to permanent financing, including private loans and multi-source government funding.
  • Negotiate and draft agreements related to debt, equity, real estate, easements, and joint use arrangements.
  • Manage transaction timelines, track due diligence, and identify key issues for resolution
  • Supervise and guide project coordinators in closing logistics and documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and governmental agencies.
  • Draft legal opinions with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school and active membership with the California Bar.
  • 3–10 years of experience handling transactional real estate matters.
  • Strong drafting and document review skills.
  • Experience with both private and public lending.
  • Familiarity with affordable housing finance, low-income housing tax credits, or governmental agencies preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common legal software.
