Commercial Design Engineer – Architectural Millwork

🏭 Full-Time | 📐 AutoCAD & Cabinet Vision | 💼 Commercial Projects

About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Design Engineer with strong AutoCAD and Cabinet Vision skills to join our commercial architectural millwork team. This role is critical in turning client concepts into shop-ready drawings and engineered solutions that can be produced efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare detailed drawings, 3D models, and technical documents using AutoCAD and Cabinet Vision for commercial architectural millwork projects.

  • Translate architectural drawings and specifications into accurate shop drawings and cut lists for production.

  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and shop teams to ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, and project deadlines.

  • Support submittals and approvals, coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients.

  • Review, revise, and finalize designs for large-scale commercial millwork including casework, fixtures, panels, and custom installations.

  • Maintain drawing accuracy for permitting, fabrication, and installation phases.

  • Assist in troubleshooting design or production issues, recommending cost-effective and practical solutions.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Design Engineer, Drafter, or Detailer in commercial architectural millwork or custom casework.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Cabinet Vision (additional software like Microvellum, Mozaik, or Inventor a plus).

  • Strong understanding of millwork fabrication methods, materials, and installation standards.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and create architectural blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, architects, and internal teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of CNC programming and manufacturing processes.

  • Familiarity with AWI standards and commercial construction documentation.

  • Experience with complex commercial projects such as hospitals, universities, retail, and corporate interiors.
