Heavy Equipment Mechanic (421A)

Location: Northern GTA

A respected heavy civil contractor is currently seeking a certified Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their dedicated maintenance team. This full-time position is ideal for a motivated individual with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.

About the Role:

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will travel to active job sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy machinery and commercial equipment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and mechanically skilled, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to job sites to perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks to ensure equipment is reliable and safe
  • Perform mechanical repairs and modifications on gas and diesel-powered equipment
  • Install and test new or aftermarket components and attachments
  • Maintain accurate records, work orders, and timecards
  • Monitor parts usage, assist with ordering supplies, and support inventory control
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain tools and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to preventative maintenance planning
  • Stay current with new repair techniques and changes in technology

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment or Diesel Mechanic
  • College, vocational, or technical training in a related field
  • 421A Mechanic’s License or Red Seal Certification preferred
  • Strong mechanical skills in gas and diesel systems
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Able to read and interpret work orders and repair manuals
  • Computer literacy and ability to complete digital documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or in a team

Work Conditions:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to construction sites
  • Use of safety equipment (steel-toed boots, goggles, etc.) is mandatory
  • Overtime and 24/7 availability may be required
  • Travel to off-site locations as needed
