Job Description

Senior Project Manager – Mechanical / Complex Piping

Are you an experienced Mechanical Project Manager who knows complex piping—not just HVAC?

We are partnering with a well-established and highly respected mechanical contractor looking for a seasoned Senior Project Manager to join their team. This is an opportunity for someone with deep experience in large-scale piping, boilers, chillers, and hydronic systems who wants to take on challenging projects while working for a company that values its people and provides opportunities for continued growth.

This is not a position for a general HVAC PM who has occasionally managed piping. We're looking for someone who can point to significant, complex piping projects they've personally led and speak confidently about the scope, systems, challenges, financials, and results.

What’s in It for You

  • Highly competitive compensation based on experience
  • Strong bonus structure
  • Robust benefits package
  • Excellent career growth and advancement opportunities
  • Long-term stability with an established organization
  • Challenging, high-value mechanical projects
  • Strong leadership and operational support
  • A positive company culture that values its employees
  • Opportunity to make an impact and take ownership of major projects
  • Continued professional development and opportunity for increased leadership responsibility

What You'll Be Doing

  • Manage complex mechanical and piping projects from preconstruction through final completion
  • Lead projects involving boilers, chillers, hydronics, central plants, and large-scale piping systems
  • Manage project budgets, forecasting, cost controls, schedules, and overall financial performance
  • Coordinate field labor, subcontractors, vendors, equipment, and material procurement
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes, contracts, and change orders
  • Partner closely with field leadership to ensure constructability, productivity, quality, and schedule performance
  • Manage relationships with owners, GCs, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Identify project risks and proactively resolve field, design, scheduling, and cost-related issues
  • Lead project meetings and maintain strong communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee billing, change management, project documentation, closeout, and overall project profitability

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of Project Management experience within mechanical construction
  • Direct and measurable experience managing complex piping projects
  • Significant experience with:
    • Boilers
    • Chillers
    • Hydronic piping
    • Large-scale mechanical piping systems
    • Central plants / mechanical equipment
  • Proven success managing large, complex projects and project financials
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction means, methods, sequencing, and field operations
  • Experience managing projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and client management skills

Even Better If You Bring

  • Previous hands-on field/trade experience before moving into Project Management
  • Mechanical contractor or specialty piping contractor experience
  • Industrial, healthcare, institutional, manufacturing, central utility plant, or other technically complex project experience
  • Experience within the Midwest construction market
  • A proven ability to lead project teams while building strong relationships with field personnel

The Opportunity

If you've spent your career managing serious mechanical piping projects and are ready for an organization where your experience will be valued, this is worth a conversation.

We're looking for someone who understands what it takes to successfully deliver large-scale boiler, chiller, hydronic, and complex piping projects—from estimating and preconstruction through field execution, financial management, and closeout.

In return, you'll have the opportunity to join a company offering excellent compensation, strong bonus potential, comprehensive benefits, career advancement, challenging projects, and a culture where good people can build a long-term career.
