We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Structural Engineer to lead the design and analysis of exposed architectural roof trusses for commercial construction projects, including vaulted ceilings and open-structure environments. This role requires a unique blend of structural expertise and architectural sensibility to ensure that all truss designs are both structurally sound and aesthetically refined.
Design and engineer exposed roof trusses for a variety of commercial applications, with a focus on vaulted ceilings and other open interior spaces.
Collaborate closely with architects, designers, and construction teams to align structural performance with architectural vision.
Perform structural calculations, modeling, and analysis to ensure truss designs meet local building codes, safety standards, and load requirements.
Select appropriate materials (e.g., timber, steel, engineered wood) based on structural demands and aesthetic considerations.
Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and documentation for truss systems, using AutoCAD, Revit, or other structural design software.
Participate in design reviews and coordinate across disciplines to resolve design conflicts or challenges.
Conduct site visits as needed to review installation and ensure compliance with design intent.
Stay informed on innovations in truss design, construction materials, and engineering methods.
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer In-Training (EIT) with plan to obtain licensure within a specified timeframe.
2+ years of experience in structural engineering, with specific expertise in roof truss systems and exposed structural elements.
Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, SAP2000, ETABS) and CAD/BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
Strong understanding of architectural design principles and a proven ability to integrate structural solutions with aesthetic goals.
Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, NDS, and other applicable codes and standards.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Experience designing with both timber and wood trusses.
Previous work on high-end commercial or institutional projects featuring exposed structure.
Experience working with prefabricated or custom-fabricated truss systems.
