Detailing Coordinator - Structural Steel
We are seeking a Detailing Coordinator with deep knowledge of structural steel and a strong grasp of coordination and communication to lead and manage the detailing activities of our construction projects. This mid-career role is a critical liaison between the detailing team, engineering, and project management—ensuring clarity, consistency, and quality across all shop and erection drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the technical right-hand to the Project Manager for detailing-related activities
Lead the development of the detailing setup by reviewing all contract and sales documentation
Coordinate detailing requirements with various trades including precast, MEP, architectural, stair/rail, joist/deck, and more
Review shop and erection drawings for quality, completeness, and adherence to standards
Manage RFIs—create, review, and track responses that impact scope, schedule, or cost
Interpret revised contract documents (NOCs) for detailing, material, and cost implications
Approve invoices and extras submitted by detailers and engineers
Maintain critical project logs and meeting documentation
Support field crews by addressing questions and preparing field work sketches
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in the structural steel industry, ideally in a drafting, detailing, or project coordination role
Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders
Strong working knowledge of AISC and AWS standards
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, shop, and erection drawings
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Proficiency in basic computer applications and document management tools
Prior detailing experience is a plus but not required
Candidates from backgrounds such as chief draftsman, experienced detailers/checkers, assistant project managers, or engineers with leadership experience are encouraged to apply
