Job Description

A client is seeking a skilled Survey Crew Chief to manage survey projects for both private and public clients. This position will involve quoting jobs, managing survey crews, and overseeing projects from start to finish. Primarily office-based, occasional fieldwork or attendance at client meetings will be required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to effectively collaborate with department personnel, office staff, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a survey crew in mapping and construction projects, including boundary and topographic surveys
  • Supervise field survey crews, ensuring the completion of survey tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • Document all phases of survey work, ensuring quality control and adherence to project requirements
  • Use and understand survey equipment, such as total stations, GPS, and data collectors
  • Download and upload survey data to and from the office
  • Read and interpret construction plans
  • Locate property corners and landmarks
  • Communicate with project teams, owners, managers, clients, and coworkers
  • Perform field duties, including tasks like digging holes for monuments, walking on rugged terrain, and obtaining invert information on utilities

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying
    • Minnesota Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (P.L.S.)
    • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Preferred:

    • 5+ years of experience in land surveying
    • Experience managing survey crews in a leadership role

Additional Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in survey work, with the potential to lead a crew
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for survey analysis
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in survey data and documentation
