Lead CNC Programmer Responsibilities
- The Lead CNC Programmer is responsible for managing employees, machines, and resources within the department.
- Manages the team by setting a strong example of work ethic, positive attitude, and collaboration, while adhering to and enforcing shop policies.
- Mentors 30-40 machinists to foster a learning environment and maintain shop practices and company policies.
- Available to answer questions, solve problems, and provide constructive feedback, including conducting annual reviews and handling disciplinary actions.
- Writes programs using CAM software based on Engineering Department specifications and sets up, operates, and leads CNC programming for mills and lathes.
- Ensures machines are cleaned, maintained, and logs are updated regularly, reporting issues to the shop foreman and maintenance personnel.
- Optimizes machine and personnel performance to limit inefficiencies.
- Stays knowledgeable and up-to-date on machine and tooling technologies.
- Coordinates daily with the shop foreman and other leads to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
- Collaborates with Procurement Management for supplies and logistics, maintaining inventory and replacing tools, parts, and equipment.
- Designs jigs, fixtures, multi-part holdings, and templates to enhance production efficiency.
- Learns and improves established practices and manual instructions to maximize department efficiency and productivity.
Lead CNC Programmer Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience as a Lead CNC Programmer with Mastercam, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Preferred formal machining training from an accredited trade school.
- Strong skills in programming, problem-solving, analytics, mathematics, mechanics, planning, organization, interpersonal relations, and communication.
- Proficient in using measurement tools and gauges.
- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME 14.5-2009) and welding symbols.
- Experience with AS9102B First Article Inspection Reports.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 & AS9100 quality management systems.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen preferred.
- Mechanically inclined with knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and basic trigonometry.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs safely, maneuver a pallet jack, and use grinders.
- Punctual, able to work a 40-hour week with regular overtime.
- Hardworking and reliable.
